PE Sports Grant Funding

Background

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport, to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports provision. Funding has been allocated to all maintained and state funded schools with primary phase pupils from 1st September 2013. A typical primary school receives about £9,250 annually in the academic years. Funding will continue for 2017/18 but this will see an increase to approximately £20,000 because of the sugar tax on soft drinks.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
