  • Get rocking!! Rock Steady Concert 28th March 2023

Wed 29 Mar 2023 Karen Hambleton

What a fantastic afternoon we had enjoying some classic and modern tunes played by our very own in house bands! The energy in the room was immense as four different bands, of various ages rocked together. There were vocals, drum fills, guitars, keyboards....and the parents who joined us loved it too.

'I wanted to say how fantastic Rock Steady is and the opportunity it gives the children. I was so emotional watching them, you must be so proud and I am very thankful we can come and watch' (Year 6 parent)

  • COMIC RELIEF DAY!

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Karen Hambleton

We loved all your noses today, but what made it more special is that the children really understood why the noses were a mere symbol, whereas the important part was giving to others and making a difference. Not a moan to be heard when noses were squashed or ripped! Well done everyone on raising over £600 today. #making a difference.

  • ROVING BOOK FAIR

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Karen Hambleton

Our children just love reading for pleasure and there is always a real buzz in the hall when they get to scan the bookshelves in search of the book they really wanted, a new title or learning about something of interest. Tt also means that the school benefits from the purchases made so that we can keep our libraries tip-top and fresh!

  • We love to be historians! New outdoor time line.

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Karen Hambleton

A HUGE thank you to the PTFA and all those parents and carers who have helped fund our outdoor timeline. It looks fantastic and gives children the opportunity to really consider the chronology of historical events.

  • Wonderdome Visit Tuesday 28th February

    Fri 03 Mar 2023

On Tuesday something big and peculiar appeared in our school hall. Despite looking suspiciously like the balloons we have heard about in the news recently, we were relieved to find out that FS2 and Y1 had actually been invited to a space show inside an inflatable Wonderdome.....

Once inflated the children were filled with anticipation and questions as to what this thing was that had appeared in our hall. Was it a bouncy castle? Was it a tent? What was inside? Aliens? We queued up outside the dome and two lovely ladies unzipped the dome and we stepped inside.

Inside the Wonderdome it was very dark and we felt like we were in a spaceship. The ladies inside the dome taught us all about the planets, about the stars and galaxies and also about what life is like for astronauts in space.

    Some facts we learned were:

    • The moon is made of dust and rocks, just like Earth.
    • Our Earth is on the milky way.
    • The sun is a star. Some stars are much bigger than our sun.
    • Stars make constellations and there are stories about where they come from.
    • There are 8 planets.
    • Astronauts float in space because there is no gravity.
    • We also learnt how astronauts go to the toilet in space!

This was a fantastic experience for our FS2 and Year 1 children. It has especially kicked off our space topic in FS2 perfectly and our children are well on their way to becoming future astronauts.

  • WORLD BOOK DAY!

Thu 02 Mar 2023 Karen Hambleton

What a fabulous day we have had celebrating World Book Day and the joy of reading for pleasure! The children had the option of dressing up in a character from a favourite book...and we had some great outfits!! Pupils also created book reviews as part of the half term challenge and throughout the day classes moved around the school, enjoying different texts by Joseph Coelho and activities with various staff. It was great to see the wonderful variety and the pupils completing their tasting menu. The day really showed us all what a love of reading the children at Lawn have! It's not just about dressing up (although that is fun!) it is the promotion of reading in all forms. The School Parliament children have taken their role of selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each year group, as part of the book review competition, and we can not wait to have them displayed around the school!
